Burundian sports journalists demand a media zone in the national stadium

While the renovation of the Intwari Stadium has already started, sports journalists in Burundi are asking to be given a suitable and spacious place in that stadium while they report matches especially as their work contributes to the promotion of sports in Burundi.

The renovation happens after the Intwari Stadium was banned by CAF in February 2022 for “not meeting the required standards to host CAF A Type competitions.”

Some of the journalists working in Bujumbura with whom we spoke asked that wherever stadiums are built in the country, there should be a media zone so that their work can be done well and their working tools are safe.

The Football Federation of Burundi (FFB) has announced that the Intwari stadium will be renovated within eight months to meet the standards required by CAF and FIFA.

On Tuesday 20 September 2022, a meeting was held in Bujumbura to study how the Intwari stadium could be renovated. The meeting was attended by the ministry in charge of sport, an engineer who is developing the plan of the Intwari stadium, the FFB and its “honorary president” Révérien Ndikuriyo.

The Intwari Stadium, which hosts international matches, has existed since Burundi’s independence.
